Jamaica is a parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy with the monarch being represented by a Governor-General.
The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who officially uses the title "Queen of Jamaica" when she visits the country or performs duties overseas on Jamaica's behalf.
The flag has three colours :
- black for slavery and poverty
- gold for the sun and the island's natural wealth
- green represents the land and hope for the future.
Jamaica is the birthplace of REGGAE.
The most famous Jamaican is Bob Marley, the most famous reggae singer in the world.
His songs are about the problems of the poor people of Jamaica. They encourage black people to be proud of their African identity. Get up, stand up, his most famous song, became an international hit.
Justice, world peace and harmony are also important ideas in his songs.
