THE VICTORIAN ERA

Before 1800, Great Britain was mostly a rural country, dominated by agriculture. Many changes occurred during the 19th century and more particularly during the  reign of Queen Victoria, from 1837 to 1901. This period, called the Victoria era, was marked by the Industrial Revolution, which changed Britain from a land of farms and villages to a land of large cities and factories. The population expanded and the towns expanded even more. The British Empire was very powerful, with many colonies (Canada, India, Australia...) and Britain became a world leader. Queen Victoria became the richest and most powerful person in the world.
