There is / there are : say what exists.

You use "there is" or "there are" to say WHAT EXISTS.

 "There is" is followed by the singular (one thing only).
 "There are" is followed by the plural (more than one).

Look at the photos below and read the captions (the sentences under or next to the photos).



There is a new teacher. There is a projector in the classroom. There are two bottles of water. There are lots of blue lockers.












There is a kitten in the tree. There are red and brown leaves. It's autumn.

There are three rats in my bath! There is a black one, a white one and a brown and white one! HELP!

There are lots of packets of crisps in the shop. There is a packet of white cheddar quavers in the middle! That's my favourite! Mmm!
